WordPress 2.6 Is Out? Are You Upgrading?

What’s with technology? It seems just like yesterday when we were all excited about WordPress 2.5 and me always being an early adopter was right out of the block in upgrading immediately to WordPress 2.5 as soon as it was available. Of course I do this with everything, let it be the anti-virus/firewall/anti-spyware on my system or any other software that I am using on my system. I still don’t get it though why technology has to become obsolete so soon. My state of the art gaming machine can hardly cut the ice today just a couple of years after I purchased. The result, I am going in for a quad core state of the art gaming machine, which I hope will at least last the couple of years my present one has given me.

Coming back to WordPress 2.6 though I have decided not to upgrade immediately, but to hold onto my horses for a while and read up on all its bugs and fixes. I remember the torrid time I had with WordPress 2.5 and the issues it gave with the sidebar and there was absolutely no fix in sight and even the WordPress forums were silent and could not come up with an answer for a long time. Hence, I have decided to give WordPress 2.6 the miss for a while till its bugs come out and the fixes are rolled out too. As of now I am planning to lay low for a couple of weeks, but then it might get extended or shortened too. What are your thoughts on this? Are you going to upgrade immediately or have already done it, or are you going to wait and watch for a while this time around? Let me know your thoughts and please do drop in a line. Take care and God bless!

I too will not upgrade immediately for many reasons. One, that I fear if I update now, I will suffer due to incompatibilities with my theme and/or the many plugins I use. I'll wait till all my plugins have a working version with 2.6 wordpress. Also, I fear that if I update too early, it might break my blog and i'm in no mood to reconstruct my blog from scratch again. So, i'll bid my time. I'll install it may be after 2 weeks

So right Abhijit. I faced a lot of problems with the sidebar widgets the last time around. It was like my blog was without ads and links for nearly two weeks and I had even thought of removing the upgrade when I found a way to fix it myself. What's sad is that there was no prompt response from WordPress even though many users reported the same problem in the forums. Guess even WordPress can be caught napping on its feet.
