"Surprise Me" says Rachel Bilson to Hayden Christensen at the ending of Jumper, but there is hardly anything surprising about the Jumper.
Happy weekend everyone! Mine was spent entertaining my wife and of course my own self. We made a date to catch Jumper at the local IMAX Theater and while it’s pretty nifty and entertaining as a teen flick still Doug Liman does not reach the levels of The Bourne Series. Even Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a patch above compared to the Jumper. Hayden Christensen does have something to get out of the Star Wars stamp that he has written all over him, but I found 2003′s Shattered Glass did more in that regard. Jumper serves mainly as a big budget Hollywood summer release, but still not big enough and not enough of high octane action here. Jumper is not entirely lacking in entertainment value. There are scenic locales from all over the world, Liman’s trademark overhead shots pulled in from long range in a quick burst (reminiscent of The Bourne series), and decent action. Samuel L. Jackson seems to be stuck in a rut here playing the bad guy and there is nobody else to mention apart from Jamie Bell and Rachel Bilson who join in on the ride, but nothing spectacular to mention in particular. All in all a decent action movie, worth a 6/10, not bad, but nothing excellent to write home either. Watch it if you have nothing better planned for the weekend.
