I upgraded to the latest version of WordPress 2.5 yesterday night. The process itself was very smooth and without any hassles. From the readme.html follow the section “Upgrading†if you are upgrading WordPress. If however you are moving over to WordPress and are installing WordPress afresh or for the first time then “Installation: Famous 5-minute install†is what you need to follow. Either way it will be done in under 2 minutes and without any hassles whatsoever, that’s how easy WordPress really is.
After the upgrade, my existing xMark WordPress Theme continued to work and so did all the plugins with the exception of the Advanced-Admin-Menus plugin which I had to deactivate since the menu system in the dashboard was not visible at all with this plugin activated. Also, with the way the dashboard is designed in WordPress 2.5 one might not need this plugin at all since accessing the menu system is pretty easy and very much accessible throughout.
Now to the problem area. The widgets menu has been totally redesigned and no longer can we drag them around. They are easy to select and deselect and play around with and do work quite well, but one problem I have noted is if I select a text widget to try out and then deselect it, it takes with it all the other text widgets in the sidebar too and you will end up entering the code again in the text widgets you want in the sidebar especially if you are displaying ads in them. Hope this issue gets sorted out quickly or else till then have to play very carefully with text widgets at least in the sidebar. Apart from this single issue till now I have not come across any other problems with WordPress 2.5 and would heartily recommend everyone to upgrade to the latest WordPress version and invite others to try out WordPress if they have not yet done so.
