Things Are Only Going To Get Worse Before…

Well I am not talking about the financial markets or people losing their homes and jobs here. I just went through the Book Of Revelations and I realized that things are only going to go from bad to worse in this world of ours. Revelations talks about things getting worse in the form of famine, wars, financial turmoil, terrorism, etc. I mean you name and you got it. Even a cursory reading of the Book Of Revelations, the last book of the Bible will confirm this. Well not to panic, I am not proclaiming all round doom here. One promise that stood out and which I wanted to share with you all was from Revelation 21:5 that says “I am making everything new!” I want us all to take that to heart, that God is making everything new. I was (still am probably) in a bit of a mess, mess that I knowingly got myself into and so cannot blame anyone else other than myself, but the Lord Jesus has been ministering to me and holding my hand and walking me through it with the promise of deliverance as long as I look to Him and walk in faith. Remember Peter walked on water as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus. Once Peter got his eyes off of Jesus and began to look at the circumstance and the environment doubt set in and he began to drown. Even there the Lord Jesus did not let go, but held Peter up. You can read this up in Matthew 14. Similarly I want you to note that even if you are in a mess (that you have created or walked into with your eyes open), the Lord Jesus’ promise is to make everything new and all that is required of you is to walk looking at the Lord Jesus and obey Him and His directions.

I have given up on all avenues of bad news like the newspaper and the news channels on TV. I prefer entertainment like CSI, a good movie, or better still Discovery Travel and Living or National Geographic. In fact I did not learn until the next morning about the recent attack on Mumbai. Even after this I did not tune into any of the channels covering the terrorist attacks on the Taj and other places. Now you might call me unpatriotic (I can assure you I am a patriot to the core), but hear me out here. I read about a guy who did not know that Saddam Hussein was captured and executed until 2 months had passed after the incident. Yeah, this guy too keeps himself away from all avenues of bad news. Anyways his logic was that it did not affect him in anyway. Not knowing the news did not cost him anything or have any major impact on his life. I too follow the same rule. Guys might say being an Indian and the attacks having taken place in Mumbai should affect me, but I say how differently from the scores glued to the TVs. All have simply gone back to their lives as before the terrorist attacks. Only the news channels are continuing to spin the story to milk it for all its worth. The Indian Government is yet to do anything (like bomb Pakistan for starters) except talk and talk and talk. The public has moved on. Now whether we read the newspapers or not, watched the events unfold on TV or not, all have moved on and nothing has been done about it and most likely nothing will be done about it. In a matter of days everything will be forgotten and swept under the carpet till the next round of terrorist attack, which will come for sure since the Bible promises things will only get worse. Closer home in Hyderabad we have had similar attacks probably the most famous being the Lumbini Park and Gokul Chat attacks that took place in 2007. It is 2009 and all is forgotten about them and even the State Government has all but dragged its heels on this issue.

I know for sure that things are only going to get worse as clearly specified in the Book Of Revelations. Why waste time on something that I already know? You may or may not agree with this, but I am only stating this to state the obvious. The time spent on catching up on news can be better invested instead in a time of prayer or reading the Word Of God i.e. the Bible. They would be much profitable anyways you look at it. Anyways to wind it up, look to the Lord Jesus and He will create everything new and get you out of the mess you are in. Also, if at all possible try to avoid all avenues of news itself. There are much more profitable and enjoyable ways to spend your time than to catch up on all the bad news of everything going on in the world. Peace!
