A while back I shared about The Importance Of Having A Prayer Room and today I want to share about something really, really important that begins to take place as you spend time all alone with God in a secluded prayer room. The most important thing in your walk (or anybody’s) with God is to hear His voice and recognize it so that we can begin to act on it and obey Him and this happens more frequently as you enter the prayer den more frequently. It’s just a matter of time as we make ourselves available to Him and let Him know that we are giving Him time. We know from 1 Kings 19:11-12 that God speaks in a still small voice.
Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
Now just knowing that God speaks in a still small voice is not enough, we need to understand and know how His voice sounds so that we can correctly identify it. Some people think that God speaks to us when we pray. Now that’s partly correct but not entirely correct. God is always speaking to us, but those who spend time in prayer tune their spirits and their spiritual tuners to hear God more clearly and more effectively. But not everything you hear during a time of prayer is from God. Our Lord Jesus spent 40 days and nights fasting and praying and He heard the devil speak, so a word of caution from me to those who are seeking to hear and identify God’s voice.

This is the way, walk in it!
Let me assure you though that God does speak and everyone can and should hear His voice. It’s only a matter of time if you spend time in prayer and the Word before you begin to hear Him speak. Now one of the most important factors that will determine how soon and how clearly you begin to hear God’s voice is how much time you spend in prayer and especially all alone. I’m not talking of corporate church prayer here. I’m talking of time one-to-one with God, just the two of you. As I’m spending time in seclusion in my prayer den, all alone with God, God’s voice too is coming all alone to me without any of the usual distractions or confusions attached to it. This still small voice is not becoming any louder, it still remains a still small voice, but yet it’s coming more frequently and is also clearer. Now this does not mean that God has begun to speak to me all of a sudden. As I mentioned before, God is always speaking to us, we need to clean up our receivers and make sure we tune in to the right station to hear His voice and that’s what is achieved with having a secluded place and time for prayer. It’s only a matter of time before you begin to hear God for yourself as you spend time in seclusion all alone with Him and that too on a daily basis.
