Supertramp – The Very Best Of Supertramp Album Review!

Supertramp were a British rock group most successful in the 1970s to the early 1980s when they delivered some memorable chart topping hits and this album The Very Best Of Supertramp is loaded with those very memorable super hits. As with all Greatest Hits/Best Of compilations, fans will note some missing tracks but this is as close to a comprehensive compilation of this group as it gets and all the hits are very much present on this package. I have been listening to and enjoying this album from all through the afternoon, and I have to tell you it’s a great collection that just breezes through and makes for some very great easy listening music. Among all the Supertramp compilations this one is the best so far and certainly way ahead of the pack and hence a must buy recommendation from me. This deservedly merits a place in any music collection and that too without any reservations whatsoever.

Coming to Supertramp’s continuation as a group, well they are no more having disbanded in 2003 and while the band formed in 1969 they were most active and commercially successful and also at their artistic peak for only a period of about 5 years. The bulk of those 5 years are well represented on this album and from the two cult classic albums Crime Of The Century and Breakfast In America both of which are excellent albums in their own right. The genre of music played by Supertramp is mild rock to soft rock and even liberal doses of pop can be found throughout the album, very easy listening, but great tracks that raise the bar for some great music. In other words Supertramp created a lot of very varied music to be slotted in a specific category, but all of it culminated in some very great music that has stood the test of time. You could say they were the David Bowie of rock and pop groups with their outlandish and quirky behavior onstage but defied classification nevertheless. They were predominant and popular when pop was at its peak, but not all of their music was pop, it was neither rock, well in short it defies classification so go ahead and figure. Just be sure they made great music and this album is an absolute must have in any music collection.
