Star Trek Movie Review!

Hot on the heels of Watchmen was the latest big screen adaptation of Star Trek another movie that I had missed due to my time travel (lack of time and traveling engagements). Anyways it was with excitement that I got around to watching the HD version of this movie but on the small screen of my personal home theater.

At the outset this is a very different Star Trek and in fact goes back to the roots to trace the beginnings of James T. Kirk, Spock, Leonard H. McCoy/Bones, Nyota Uhura, Montgomery Scott/Scotty, Lt. Hikaru Sulu, and Pavel Chekov among others. The original television series was a personal favorite and one that I never missed. In fact I even went about collecting all the episodes of the original series (TOS) on DVD since I would revisit them so frequently.

Star Trek Movie Review

The movie begins with Tiberius Kirk sacrificing his life and saving 800 people while at the same time his pregnant wife delivers young James T. Kirk. Young Kirk grows up a delinquent until he is rescued by Capt. Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood) who encourages him to mend his ways and join Starfleet Academy to find his true calling in life. Over at Starfleet Academy James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) meets and teams up with Spock (Zachary Quinto), Bones (Karl Urban), Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana), Lt. Hikaru Sulu (John Cho), and Pavel Chekov (Anton Yelchin) among others.

Events take a turn for the young Starfleet cadets when Spock’s planet Vulcan is destroyed by Romulans led by Nero (Eric Bana) who wants revenge on everybody because his home planet was destroyed and no one stepped in to save his planet or his loved ones. Nero next plans to attack and destroy planet Earth and it is up to James T. Kirk, Spock and the rest of the Star Trek team to save the day. Very obviously this means a lot of fun for us who join in on the ride. An absolute romp and also an absolute must for every Star Trek fan.
