Job description:
Strong SQL Skills – all our web pages are dynamically generated by pulling data from a database. We have DBAs, but the developer needs to be strong in SQL to be effective. We have found that developers can learn languages (like PERL) but SQL is something they should already be comfortable with. PERL development experience – our application is written in PERL, so a strong knowledge of PERL allows the candidate to come up to speed very fast.

Past experiences with systems that create dynamic web pages using an environment like Perl/mod_perl, JSP, ASP, and ColdFusion or similar, accessing a SQL database on the back end is vital. Specific Perl experience should include: OOA/OOD leading to mod_perl implementations, focus on performance techniques, and use of common CPAN modules.

eCommerce experience – It really helps if the candidate has ecommerce experience and not just shrink wrapped application development experience. Formal programming background using one of the following languages – C, C++, Java.

Appreciation for formal development lifecycles – No hackers! Some people with "consultant" backgrounds do not do well in team environments – Developers write release notes, developers work with a formal QA team. Much of our file transfer technology is based on XML/SOAP. Working knowledge of XML constructs, including DTD definition and XSLT validation would be very valuable. We have extended the HTML tag set to support rapid deployment of customized web interfaces. Knowledge of HTML required, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript would be helpful.

Working knowledge of networking technologies, including security and encryption on the Internet, and basic networking concepts. Hands on experience with Apache web servers is also a plus.

Knowledge of and productivity with Solaris development environment is desirable as well as ability to multitask, prioritize, show initiative and respond quickly in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with shopping carts, cookies, credit card processing, software licensing, electronic software downloads (ESD), and electronic licensing is a plus.
