Lately I’ve discovered a new shopping paradise (at least for me). Like other guys shopping is something I don’t enjoy or relish and when it’s something like clothes, cosmetics or even plain groceries it certainly become arduous for me. However, this is something every married man has to live with and I’m certainly no exception. All this changed (well not by much since I still hate shopping) however when I discovered SPAR a new supermarket and now my grocery shopping is a more unique and a more happy experience for me.

At the outset let me tell you that I’m in no way associated with SPAR or any of its partners and I’m not getting paid to write this review and also I really don’t know how the prices in SPAR compare with others so please spare me on these counts. Other than that SPAR is really amazing for many, many other facts. For starters the air-conditioning works and is kept turned on all the time in it and this is even in peak Indian summer. They have loads of fruits and vegetables and all of them fresh. This is very obviously good news to a newly turned fruit and vegetable convert like me. They even have a section devoted to cheeses and most of them are imported and yes I do watch Cheese Slices on Discovery. They also have a section for freshly cut meat and even marinated meat along with fish. The usual assortments of sweets, namkeens (salted snacks), and bakery items along with grocery items are available in abundance. What amazed me even more was the winery section with a varied assortment of wines and alcohol. Now I don’t drink so I’m not sure how comprehensive this selection was, but it’s still pretty amazing because alcohol is not available in other supermarkets or at any other place except at a wine shop. The staff are courteous and don’t really bother you unless you specifically ask for assistance, but otherwise you are left all alone to just wander about should that please you. This is very pleasing to me considering the very pushy “buy something” staff we encounter at other places. The main reasons that do please me at SPAR are the range of available products and the air-conditioning running about all the time, which makes for a very pleasant shopping experience at SPAR Supermarket. Give it a try for your next round of grocery shopping, and I’m sure you will enjoy it.
