
Here is a recipe to make sambhar powder and subsequently finger licking delicious sambhar to be had for breakfast along with idli, dosa, vada etc. and also for lunch and dinner along with rice and other curries.
Ingredients:
Kandhipappu/toor dal/yellow lentil 1 cup
Minapappu/urad dal/black gram 1 cup
Coriander seeds 1 cup
Mustard seeds 2-3 tsp
Cumin seeds 1-2 tbsp
Fenugreek seeds 1/2 tsp
Black peppercorns 1-2 tbsp
Cloves 1 tbsp
Whole dry red chilies 12-15
Curry leaves 2-3 sprigs
Asafoetida 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Oil 2 tsp
Method:
Dry roast the toor dal, the urad dal, and the coriander seeds. Next add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, black peppercorns, and cloves and dry roast for a couple of more minutes. Heat oil and fry whole dry red chilies and curry leaves for a couple of minutes. Cool and grind with asafoetida and turmeric powder. Cool and store in an airtight container.
This sambhar powder can be added when making sambhar, but you obviously know that right!!!
