Pavan Kalyan has once again struck gold at the BO (Box Office to the uninitiated) with his latest offering Jalsa. Now I am not one to talk about the Box Office success of movies and generally limit myself to watching them and reviewing them, but Jalsa has achieved something that’s a first for a Telugu movie and being a Telugu myself I cannot ignore such an achievement and have to at the very least blog about it. Coming to what Jalsa has achieved, well it has made it to the Top 10 Overseas Total Box Office results at Box Office Mojo which tracks the box office returns of all movies.

In fact Jalsa is the first South Indian movie to be listed in the Top Ten. Jalsa came in 9th for the weekend of April 4th to 6th, 2008 with a take of $4 million, but that’s only because it was rupees converted into dollars. Jalsa in fact grossed Rs. 7.67 crores worldwide on its opening day, which is the highest collection in 75 years of the Telugu film industry and in an interview the producer gave on TV its weekend collection was a whopping 21 crores the most for any Telugu movie. Another achievement to be mentioned, Jalsa is the most widely released South Indian picture ever with it being released in more than a 1000 theaters worldwide. The film was released in the US with 18 prints. Don’t know how this stacks against a Rajinikanth movie though considering the opening his last movie Sivaji The Boss took in. Still it’s a moment of pride for all us Telugus with Pavan Kalyan’s Jalsa achievement and let’s wish him even more success with Jalsa and his forthcoming ventures.
