Magadheera Movie Review! Tollywood’s Most Expensive Movie Hits The Screens…

Right from when the promos started airing everyone (well most of everyone) was eagerly awaiting this movie. Made at a whopping budget of reportedly around Rs. 40 Crores which makes it the most expensive Telugu movie ever made, Magadheera is finally here. Ever since I heard the storyline I was myself expecting a Jackie Chan “The Myth” remake but very obviously Indianised.

Visually quite stunning, with excellent technical and production values, the movie will satisfy the fans and most people except the diehard critic one supposes. The story is pretty limited of star-crossed lovers who die and are reborn and reunited 400 years later. Ram Charan plays the head of the guard in the King’s army and Kajal Agarwal the princess. Enter the villain Dev Gil who has an eye on the beautiful princess and also the kingdom itself, but the princess herself is in love with Ram Charan. This leads to a battle between Ram Charan and Dev Gill but the end result is that all end up dying only to be reborn 400 years later in this modern day and age. How the lovers unite this time around and the villains get their comeuppance forms the rest of the story.

Magadheera Movie Review

The modern day events in the movie however are just not a patch on the events of 400 years ago in the movie. The visuals and set pieces are just awesome of historical India and really do manage to transport the viewer to that time and era. Other than that this is mainly an action movie and the action is fast and furious and good needless to say. Coming to performances Ram Charan is his subdued self and not very loud which is a bit surprising considering the lineage he is from. Kajal Agarwal is her bubbly self and looks pretty, but emoting is not really her forte but to her credit she does try. The villain Dev Gill is really quite good especially in his incarnation of 400 years ago, but that’s true also for Ram Charan and Kajal Agarwal with their 400 year old avatars taking the honors.

The movie is directed by Rajamouli who has made better movies in the past. The main strengths of this movie are its visuals and the action. Music is so-so except for the mega Chiranjeevi hit Bangaru Kodipetta which has been remixed here and is accompanied by great dancing by Ram Charan and the melodious Panchadhara Bomma. Srihari is there in a cameo and literally steals the show with his very powerful dialogue delivery. Comedy is literally non-existent and a non-performer despite all efforts to the contrary. The movie is recommended and will be a fun time for all unless it’s a diehard critic but then nothing will satisfy them right? Finally yes it does remind one of the blockbuster Arundhati mainly because of the reincarnation storyline.
