Los Angeles Goes Google!

I was just reading about how “the City of Los Angeles – the second largest city in the United States – decided to switch its email to Google”. It’s not just limited to email being as they are going in for Google Apps which means sharing and editing documents, spreadsheets, presentations and more by members of a group, and then Calendar, Chat, Contacts… ah well the list can go on. I am very much impressed and have to bemoan the lack of any sort of coordination between government agencies in my home country India. In my own backyard (yes right where I stay) the roads are always dug up which makes for an obstacle course no less when I drive my car. It is not that nobody bothers, just that as soon as new roads are laid, another government agency will promptly show up to lay cables or do some underground work which necessitates the digging up of freshly laid roads. Well the City of Los Angeles is lucky the city administration thinks about such things and even plans for them when decisions like email for all the city officials (some 30,000) is planned.

You can read up more about it at Why the City of Los Angeles chose Google and watch the video below.
