A long time ago, well a really long time ago there was this guy called Job. He had a pretty normal life, I mean a life like mine and yours and went through life and problems just as you and I go through them. However, there was something special about this guy called Job that he even had a testimony from God in Job 1:8 where God said of Job "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil." Wow! What a thing to say about anyone and even more the wow factor when God says something like that about you. What say? The statement God made is self explanatory about what made Job so special. God said Job was special and no one else on earth was like him because he was blameless and upright, he feared God and shunned evil. Applying the same standards even we would be termed special by God. Apart from these characteristics there are others too found in Job that I will list out (as much as possible at least).
From Job 1:1-5 we learn that he was blameless and upright and that he feared God and shunned evil. We also learn that he was a family man having seven sons and three daughters and that he was very rich owning seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and also had a large number of servants. In fact the Bible says “he was the greatest man among all the people of the East.” We also learn that his children were not Godly or God fearing (a problem shared by most parents across the world even today) and that his kids spent their time partying and feasting, it’s not just a Generation X or Y or Z problem you know. Kids have always been rebellious and the partying kind from way, way back as evidenced here, so don’t fret and believe no one understands what you are going though. Parents from Biblical times i.e. way, way back too had to go through the same trials and travails with regard to their kids as do parents today. What’s more when the partying was over by Job’s kids he would have to step in and clean up the mess as evidenced in Job 1:5. Talk about kids trashing the place during a party. Even Job had to go through the cleaning up process after every party his kids threw and had.
So take heart if you feel that your kids are rebellious and not God fearing, or if you feel they party too much and live as if there is no tomorrow. Job dealt with the same kind of pressure way, way back and the Lord Jesus helped him to deal with it then. You too turn to the Lord Jesus Christ especially with regard to your children and He will help you with the wisdom and the patience in dealing with every situation with regard to your kids.
