How to indeed? Well just go to http://www.operamini.com/ and download Opera Mini and you will have the best browser for your mobile. Honestly! For a review of Opera Mini and for more reasons should you need convincing read on!
I have a Motorola ROKR E6 and while it’s no iPhone it still is a great multimedia phone, but ever since I downloaded Opera Mini and started browsing the internet on it, it has graduated to a full time browsing machine on its own and I can assure you will give any mobile or PDA a run for its money and better them way ahead. To start with the Motorola ROKR E6 is a touch screen phone and that coupled with Opera Mini gives the ultimate browsing experience in a mobile phone. Gone is pressing the joystick or the number keys to navigate and browse, just tap on the screen and use your thumb to scroll on the touch screen interface.
Opera Mini comes loaded with features never seen in a mobile browser before. You can use Opera Link on Opera Mini to synchronize the bookmarks and other settings on your home PC provided you are using Opera 9.5 at home and have saved your browser settings and bookmarks by registering at Opera Link. On your Opera Mini you just have to login to Opera Link and it will automatically sync all the bookmarks and you will have all the bookmarks from your home PC available on Opera Mini. Opera Mini will also continue to sync all new bookmarks you add and keep them up to date so you will find them on your home PC too.
Opera Mini comes with landscape view mode which when selected will let you view the webpages on widescreen instead of the default view on the mobile. This feature is useful for those who don’t want to scroll across the screen. Opera Mini comes with a virtual mouse with a mouse pointer on the screen visible at all times so you know exactly where the cursor is and you can use this virtual mouse to scroll across the screen and also you can select links and click on them to load pages. However, I don’t have this feature enabled since I am running Opera Mini on a touch screen mobile, but it’s a great feature if you don’t have a touch screen phone and need to use the joystick or the number keys to navigate. Either way you will find browsing and scrolling across pages a decidedly great experience on the Opera Mini.
Opera Mini also comes with Enhanced Small Screen Rendering i.e. Opera’s unique Small Screen Rendering feature, “Mobile View,” which means webpages are optimized for the mobile and are fit across the mobile screen in a linear pattern so there is no need to scroll across the screen, but you will only need to scroll up and down the page. What Opera does is it takes the webpage and reformats it for the mobile screen so that the entire webpage will fit on the mobile screen. Opera Mini does this on the fly so there is no delay in page loading time whatsoever. However, again with my touch screen phone I have this feature disabled since I can scroll easily across the page too using my thumb. You can find the settings most suitable to your browsing experience and select them.
Another great feature with Opera Mini is that it saves you a lot of money. Opera Mini compresses data before it sends it to your mobile so there is less data to load, which also increases the browsing speed and the overall experience. This is also very useful for those on volume based plans with their mobile service provider as it means less data usage and hence less expenses overall. Here in India we have unlimited plans for a fixed fee and we can even connect our mobiles to the PC and use the internet and even in this scenario the data usage continues to be unlimited for the same fee.
Opera Mini has two connection settings “HTTP Connection” and “Socket Connection” and in Socket Connection Opera Mini keeps an open connection to the Opera Mini Servers optimizing page load times and making for a faster browsing experience overall. HTTP Connection means Opera Mini has to establish a connection to the Opera Mini Servers each time a page is loaded. Depending on your data plan you can choose HTTP or Socket Connection. I have yet to test this, but according to Opera, Opera Mini loads the requested webpages at twice the speed of other mobile browsers. Like I have stated I have yet to test this out, but I can definitely say browsing on the Opera Mini is superfast compared to browsing on other mobile browsers and I have been mobile browsing for ages now and have tried them all from Opera Mobile, NetFront, Internet Explorer Mobile, Wapaka Browser, and Blazer to name a few. Take it from me Opera Mini rocks and leaves all the others behind. Even the default Opera Mobile on my Motorola ROKR E6 is no match for the Mini.
Any drawbacks you might wonder. Well Opera Mini did not support downloads, but with the release of Opera Mini 4.1 even that has been fixed. Opera Mini in a nutshell rocks, is feature laden, works like a charm and does just about everything that Opera does on my desktop. The best feature of Opera Mini is the zoom feature wherein you can have an overview of the website and yet zoom into any part of the page you desire. This feature alone is worth the free download of Opera Mini. You really need to download and check out this amazing freeware for yourself. You will just fall in love with it. Opera Mini truly rocks and will give you the best browsing experience this side of the iPhone.
