I could not sleep well and in fact woke up early in the morning around 4 a.m. I tried to spend some time on the system answering mails and queries and once that was done I turned on some music particularly the abovementioned album and man is it loaded with hits. Guns N’ Roses is/was??? an American rock band formed in the mid 1980s. I’m sure you get the picture, lots of long hair, bad hairstyles, loud guitar crunching music, growling vocals and of course lots of screaming fans. Of course it would surprise you that Guns N’ Roses actually made very few studio albums mainly because of infighting and the subsequent departure of many key members from the group. The albums made were the debut in 1987 with Appetite For Destruction, G N’ R Lies in 1988, Use Your Illusion I & Use Your Illusion II both released simultaneously in 1991, 1993s The Spaghetti Incident and then after a long gap Chinese Democracy in 2008. The latter albums are imminently forgettable and Guns N’ Roses is way past its prime so this greatest hits package is something of a reminder to how good the band were when they really rocked. Of course do note this is a greatest hits package and not a best of package so not necessary that it will contain the songs the Guns N’ Roses fans like, love and want, but it has all the major hits.

This greatest hits package is a great way for anyone to introduce themselves to Guns N’ Roses one of the greatest rock bands of all time albeit with a very short lived career in the spotlight. Of course others would disagree here and say that Appetite For Destruction is a better introduction to Guns N’ Roses and I would not say that’s a wrong idea. Appetite For Destruction still ranks as the best selling debut of all time and its raw energy is unequalled by subsequent Guns N’ Roses offerings, but it does not have the great ballads like November Rain and Don’t Cry and hence this greatest hits package is a more well rounded offering.
The album is loaded with 14 hit tracks and all of them very much recognizable for the considerable airplay they received in their heyday. The tracks found on this greatest hits package are Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O’ Mine, Patience, Paradise City, Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door, Civil War, You Could Be Mine, Don’t Cry (Original), November Rain, Live And Let Die, Yesterdays, Ain’t It Fun, Since I Don’t Have You, and Sympathy For The Devil. As I said these are great pickings for anyone wanting an introduction to this band. My first introduction to Guns N’ Roses was from the Terminator 2: Judgment Day soundtrack "You Could Be Mine". I still remember the video shot with Arnold Schwarzenegger with clippings from the movie. My personal favorite track of Guns N’ Roses has to be the ballad November Rain followed very closely by the other ballad Don’t Cry. Guns N’ Roses were absolute metal mayhem at their best and they absolutely rocked. Even their version of Bob Dylan’s Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door is pretty awesome to say the least. Go ahead and have a rocking blast with this one. Brings back a lot of memories of the late 1980s to the mid 1990s.
