WFAA-TV investigates WFAA-TV (Ch.8) first reported on the private use of the Copeland ministry's $20 million jet, trips made to a ski resort and exotic game hunting ranch. But the real turbulence for Mr. Copeland's ministry may come from within the gates of his Eagle Mountain Church and Ministry Headquarters north of Fort Worth. Former employees told WFAA-TV that the Copelands one sees on television are not the same Copelands in real life. Four former Copeland ministry employees said they were disappointed after seeing how the ministry operates. Jeff Spradlin said he grew up admiring the Copelands and was excited to work for them. “Within 90 days, I started realizing this was a huge mistake," he said. For nearly two years, Mr. Spradlin said he worked in the mail processing center where prayer request envelopes stuffed with cash would arrive. He said a group of ministers, not the Copelands, would pray over the unopened envelopes. Mr. Spradlin said he and other mail processors were the ones who read the requests. “I was sitting there getting this paperwork all the day thinking, Kenneth and Gloria don't see a word of this," he said. Another person who has worked with the ministry, Nathan Boutwell, said followers were being misled. "They think that when they get the letter back that someone has actually prayed,” he said. According to Texas state vehicle records and private investigators Copeland has 21 different vehicles including seven 7 Harley Davidson motorcycles. They have a number of boats parked at the lake in their boat houses including a $200,000 racing cigarette style boat. He also has eight airplanes five of which are jet aircraft. He just bought his $20 million dollar Citation X his newest jet fuel guzzling one that costs $5,000 per hour to fly. He is working on buying Gloria her own Citation X(so they can meet up at the ski resorts, hunting lodges and island resorts they recently went to in their new Citation X.) The whole so called ministry is a family run affair of nepotism cash raking. Over 10 years ago in 1996 the immediate family of Copelands children raked in $2.1 million dollars for one year in salaries. Ken and Gloria Copelands salary paid by the offerings to their organization was $659,170 not including outside offerings direct to them. This was over a decade ago and does not include that their house, cars, airplanes, clothes and all expenses are also paid for by their organizations offering income. I want them doing what they are called to do -- seek God, study the Word, preach the word, etc. There will always be ex-members who will complain and moan but the KEY is to listen to their complaint: Jeff said ministers prayed over the needs, not the Copelands in person (that he saw); complains about the paperwork... Nathan contradicts Jeff--Jeff said the letters WERE prayed over, Nathan says they WEREN'T; Nathan says he read the letters from prison, not Ken personally. My "personal" testimony is sending in a prayer request and within two weeks, I did get a "form letter" response to my need, but it was filled with scriptures and encouragement and it WAS specific to the need. A week later, I got a call from an intercessor to see how I was and we prayed together. God is MUCH bigger than we are and I know He honored my request for prayer and the Copeland's timely and honest response.
