Music is such an integral part of everybody’s life these days. We are surrounded with music wherever we are be it at home, on the way to work, at the workplace and some of us (I do!) even sleep with music playing on all the time. Given this scenario of everyone loving music it is natural that everyone has some favorite song/songs we sing or hum (might be only in the shower). I had read somewhere about EvilLyrics "stop humming your tunes…." and now after personally using it for a couple of years I can say it’s true. Here is a wonderful tool that works wonders in sourcing lyrics of almost every song that you play and it will do so on almost any media player that you will use on your system. For starters it supports Winamp, WMP, iTunes, MusicMatch, Foobar2000, MediaMonkey, Real Player, QCD, XMPlay, AlbumPlayer, and even Yahoo! Music Engine to name just a few. I have personally used it with WinAmp, MediaMonkey, Foobar2000, WMP, and XMPlay. There are probably other media players that are not listed here, but do run EvilLyrics on 3rd party plug-ins.
All you have to do to source the lyrics of a song is just play the song on your media player and EvilLyrics will automatically source the lyrics and display them. Also, EvilLyrics will let you search for lyrics manually by keying in the artist name and the title of the song and it will download the lyrics for you. Some media players would need plug‑ins and all plug-ins and documentation on their use are available on the EvilLyrics website here.
EvilLyrics also comes with many other plug-ins for other functions. Some of them are:
ELLO – EvilLyrics Lyrics Organizer – A plug-in for organizing lyrics downloaded by EvilLyrics.
EvilTagger – A plug-in for inserting lyrics into mp3 files using lyrics3 v2 tag.
EvilExport – Allows joining .kas files with lyrics and exporting them into LRC or SNC.
Index4Lyrics – When run in your EvilLyrics directory, it creates an html page with links to all your lyrics. List is alphabetically ordered by artist names and subdivided into section by first letter of artist names.
EvilPoster – PHP program which enables you to post lyrics you’ve viewed to your personal website quickly and easily.
LCD Smartie – A plug-in for LCD Smartie to display your current lyrics on the LCD.
I have personally been using ELLO and Index4Lyrics plug-ins with EvilLyrics, but one plug-in I have really used to maximal affect is the EvilPoster plug-in which is a PHP program which enables you to post lyrics in your personal webpage or website. My collection is here. However, this plug-in is not without its bugs. There are times when the entire database of lyrical content on your website or webpage will be wiped off completely and the counter reset to zero and the lyrics will be indexed and hosted afresh. Also, the display itself is improper at times and with garbled webpages, but hopefully these bugs will be fixed sooner than later, or maybe a better program will come along with the same or better functionality.
Another con with EvilLyrics, rather the con is from purported websites claiming to have lyrics, but will in actuality have non-lyrical content which will be downloaded. However, EvilLyrics does have an option to search for other websites or try another set of lyrics so this is not much of an issue in itself. Also, another setting is that EvilLyrics will search for incorrect lyrics and update them with correct lyrics after a week so all is well that ends well.
The only thing I can say after using EvilLyrics for a long time and trying out other similar softwares along the way is that EvilLyrics ranks at the very top and there is nothing evil about EvilLyrics. Go ahead and try it out for yourself and I am sure you will agree.
