David Against The United Goliath – Using Social Media To Get Even…

A friend sent me a link to a YouTube video by Dave Carroll titled “United Breaks Guitars”. The story goes that in 2008 Dave Carroll flew via United Airlines from Halifax to Nebraska and en route while at Chicago United Airlines baggage handlers just threw Dave Carroll’s $3,500 guitar around resulting in its breakage. Obviously Dave Carroll tried to get United Airlines to pay damages and reimburse him but equally obviously like every big bad corporation United Airlines did not even bother to listen to its customer.

Undeterred Dave Carroll not only got even but got the better of United Airlines with just a YouTube video “United Breaks Guitars” in which he sings about how United Airlines treats its customers and their baggage. The video has since become a hit on YouTube and also a media nightmare for United Airlines. Needless to say guitar maker Taylor Guitars too jumped in with their own YouTube video and also offered to repair Dave Carroll’s guitar. Stay tuned for more as Dave Carroll has promised 3 songs about this. Just shows the power of using Social Media for justice.
