Today I prepared aloo biryani oops pulav for lunch. I started out with an idea of biryani mixed with aloo, but then ended up preparing pulav with aloo. Biryani, biriani, or beriani is a South Asian dish prepared with parboiled rice wherein it is layered with meat/vegetables, generally marinated in yogurt and spices. Pulav on the other hand is prepared in absorption method wherein the raw rice is fried in oil and cooked with meat/vegetables, broth and spices. Fried rice on the other hand is a Chinese dish that is prepared with left over rice or fully cooked rice. Now to the actual recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rice (preferably basmati rice)
- ½ cup potato pieces
- 1 small onion sliced
- 10 to 15 strands of coriander leaves
- 8 to 10 mint leaves
- 2 to 3 green chilies
- 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 2 tbsp curd
- A pinch of turmeric
- ½ tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp garam masala
- 2 cups water
- Salt to taste
- Oil
Method:
Heat oil and sauté onions and green chilies. Add a pinch of turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Fry for a minute. Add chopped mint and coriander leaves and cook for a while. Add potatoes and cook for five to ten minutes. Add curd, ginger garlic paste and garam masala powder and cook for a while. Add washed raw rice and fry thoroughly. Add water. Mix well. Check seasoning and cook till the rice is done.
Will show this recipe to my mom.
Hope she prepares this…
Thanks for the recipe BTW!
You are welcome Joel. I am sure it will come out well. I really enjoyed it myself and am very thankful to God for giving me a wife who is a wonderful cook too.
